Course Outline

The course allows students to design stimulating content to enable students to develop their linguistic skills alongside their understanding of the culture and society of the countries where Spanish is spoken.

Content Covered

  • Aspects of Hispanic society : Modern and traditional values, The cyberspace, Equal rights

  • Multiculturalism in Hispanic society : Immigration, Racism, Integration 

  • Artistic culture in the Hispanic world : Modern day idols, Spanish regional identity, Cultural heritage

  • Aspects of political life in the Hispanic world : Today's youth, tomorrow's citizens, Monarchies and dictatorships, Popular movements

Assessments

  • Paper 1: Listening, reading and writing/ Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes (100 marks - 50% of A-level)

  • Paper 2: Writing / One text (Como agua para chocolate)  and one film (El Laberinto del Fauno)/ Written exam: 2 hours (80 marks in total - 20% of A-level)

  • Paper 3: Speaking : Individual research project / Oral exam: 21–23 minutes (including 5 minutes preparation time) (60 marks in total - 30% of A-level)
