Course Outline

Geography a-level enables students to explore and evaluate contemporary geographical questions and issues such as the consequences of globalisation, responses to hazards, water insecurity and climate change. The content gives students the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of physical and human geography, the complexity of people and environment questions and issues, and to become critical, reflective and independent learners
Content Covered There are four areas of study:

  1. Dynamic landscapes  (tectonics and coasts)

  2. Dynamic places (globalisation and regeneration)

  3. Physical systems and sustainability (the water cycle and water insecurity and the carbon cycle and energy security)

  4. Human systems and geopolitics (superpowers and migration, identity and sovereignty)

There is also their non-exam assessment (NEA) which involves their own independent investigation
Assessment

Paper 1: 2 hours and 15 minutes. Paper 2: 2 hours and 15 minutes. Paper 2 hours and 15 minutes. NEA: 3000-4000 word report.
