CURRICULUM INTENT STATEMENT

“Music at LBTS has a curriculum that is ambitious and designed to give all pupils the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life”

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. Music is collaborative, celebratory and challenging. In KS3 Music, we aim to provide the opportunity to learn new technical, constructive and expressive skills in music that will instil a curiosity and joy for music. We do this through:

  • Ensuring pupils perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, staples and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians

  • Ensuring pupils learn to sing and use their voices, to create and compose music with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence

  • Ensuring pupils understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.

In Music, we are fully inclusive. We use a range of strategies for all students to be able to access and progress through the full curriculum. All students in class are taught the full curriculum.

LBTS Music at ks4 - Ocr music gcse

The OCR GCSE (9–1) in Music requires learners to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the musical elements, musical contexts and musical language, and allow learners to apply these to their own work when performing and composing.

Learners are encouraged to be creative and to broaden their musical horizons and understanding with Areas of Study that inspire and challenge.

Through the various genres, styles and eras contained in our Areas of Study they will explore musical context, musical language, and performance and composition skills.
