Teaching & Learning

At Lilian Baylis, we believe that the best teaching practices are grounded in research-informed strategies that have a proven impact on student progress. Our teachers engage in regular, extensive career professional development (CPD) to master and apply these techniques with fluency. For example, we know that our pupils learn and retain more when given opportunities to practice recalling knowledge at the beginning of every lesson—what your child might refer to as "Nothing New, Just Review" (NNJR).

In addition, our teachers are skilled at adapting their instruction to meet the individual learning needs of our pupils. This typically occurs throughout the lesson, as teachers assess students' understanding using a strategy called Assessment for Learning (AfL). The insights gained from these assessments allow teachers to provide personalized feedback that drives student learning forward.

Finally, evidence shows that students require ample guided practice time during each lesson to effectively apply new knowledge. These strategies, along with others, are built into our well-structured curriculum to provide our pupils with a rich educational experience that prepares them for success in later life.
