Course Outline

The Applied Law BTEC will take on a more practical approach to studying Law and gain an understanding of the work and skills involved in legal careers, such as Legal Executives and Paralegals. Studying BTEC Law will equip you with skills that are highly regarded in the field of Law. Such as research skills, time management skills, the ability to work as a team and to work independently within deadlines.


Assessment is ongoing throughout the two years and includes assignments, presentations and other portfolio based evidence, as well as externally assessed units.

Everyone taking this qualification will study three mandatory units, covering the following content areas:

Dispute solving in civil law
Investigating aspects of criminal law
Applying the law

The option units have been designed to support choices in progression to applied law courses in higher education and to link with relevant occupational areas. At LBTS6 we cover:

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Applied Law is intended to be an a qualification for post-16 students wanting to continue their education through applied learning, and who aim to progress to higher education or via the apprenticeship route. It supports progression to a number of legal (and other) careers, which includes:

  • Solicitor
  • Chartered Legal Executive
  • Legal Clerk
  • Paralegal
  • Barristers' Clerk
  • Legal assistant
  • Court reporter
