Pastoral Care

Introduction

All students are placed in the care of a personal tutor who is responsible for registering attendance each morning and afternoon. Tutors play a very important part in the students’ personal and social development. Each tutor will get to know his or her own tutor group, and it is to tutors that students normally turn if there is a problem.

Home School Agreement

We encourage all parents and students to sign and follow the Home School Agreement. This is intended to encourage a partnership between home and the school by sharing responsibility for the educational and personal development of children who attend Lilian Baylis Technology School.

Lunch time

The school canteen offers a variety of healthy meals and snacks throughout lunch time and at break. Students are not allowed to leave the school at lunch time under any circumstances. The school does not sell any fizzy drinks, sweets, crisps or ‘fast food’. School food contains no additives or salt. No pork is served.

Prefects

Prefects are qualified to mediate in disputes between fellow students, seeking to resolve conflicts peacefully to the satisfaction of both parties. We find this often leads to a more lasting solution and encourages the students to take responsibility for their actions. Prefects also take responsibility for supporting staff and students in class and in the playground.

Year Council

We believe strongly in listening to students in the running of the school. Students should have a say in the decisions that affect their daily lives. The School Council meets regularly to discuss and decide on important improvements and issues that affect the students in the school.

The school employs 5 full time Pastoral Officers and a full time social worker. If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact the school on 020 7091 9500 and ask to speak to the Pastoral Officer responsible for your child.
