How is student's work marked and assessed?
- At the end of every unit, students' work is assessed and graded.
- A unit is every half term, except for KS3 drama, RS, Music, Citizenship and Art, here a unit is every term.
Attainment Grades for Key Stage Three
- Students are awarded Attainment Grades based on National Curriculum Levels for KS3 as follows:
N.C. Level (1 to 8) with a + or - if appropriate; e.g. 3-, 3, 3+, 4-, 4, 4+ and so on.
Effort Grades for Key Stage Three
- Students are awarded Effort Grades based on a consistent system used across the school as follows:
Ex, G, V (variable), or P (poor)
- Students also agree a target with the teacher which is monitored by the teacher; when work is marked, progress against the target(s) is monitored.
- These grades and targets are recorded on an assessment sheet kept in school in a subject file.
- Each week, homework is checked and students are placed in Directed Study Support if it is not completed.
- Students are encouraged to take pride in their work and look after their school books. We ask you to make sure any graffiti on the front is covered.
- When marking work, teachers firstly respond to the content of the piece, then to the way in which this is communicated.
