Parents

Illness

If your child falls ill, s/he must follow these procedures:

During a Lesson

  • S/he must tell the teacher, and ask for a note
  • S/he should go straight to the medical room (next to the general office)
  • We will contact parents if you need to collect your child

Break or lunchtime, or between lessons

  • S/he should go straight to the medical room (next to the general office)
  • We will contact parents if you need to collect our child
  • Students should never leave school without permission

Medicines

  • If your child needs to take any medicines (apart from an asthma inhaler), you should give them a note with details of the dose and frequency; the medication will be stored safely by the Pastoral Year Head. Your child should go to the Pastoral Year Head's office to take it at the appropriate time. The Deputy Head (Pastoral) will draw up a Health Care Plan for your child if necessary. You will be asked about this.
  • If your child uses an inhaler, make sure they have it with them. They should not use an inhaler belonging to someone else.
  • Remember that staff at the school are not normally allowed to give aspirins or any other medication.

Leaving the school premises

If your child has a medical or dental appointment during the school day:

  • S/he should go to the general office
  • S/he must show evidence (a letter from home, appointment card) about why s/he needs to leave school
  • S/he should get a sign out slip from the office; office staff will make a note of the time your child is to leave. If your child returns to school on the same day, s/he should return the sign out slip.
