About the School

Gifted & Talented (GAT)

The Gifted and Talented programme is aimed at supporting and encouraging those students who show particular enthusiasm or ability in either a certain subject, or across the whole curriculum. The programme provides students with exposure to examples of cultural, intellectual, sporting and artistic excellence. In addition each student takes part in a weekly mentoring session.

This year has seen our gifted and talented students take part in a variety of workshops, projects and challenges. These included:

  • UK Maths Challenge
  • Lambeth Science and Technology Challenge
  • Enterprise Project with Imperial College
  • Public Speaking Training
  • Chinese New Year Project
  • Residential Writing School
  • Model UN Conference
  • Various Chess Competitions
  • Master Classes in Maths
  • Various 1 day sessions at local unversities

All the above activities have helped to create a very broad, balanced and challenging curriculum for our gifted and talented students

Our gifted and talented students in Y11 also took part in a public speaking workshop organised by the Jack Petchey Foundation. The one day workshop taught our students the secrets of successful public speaking. At the end of the event students demonstrated that they could speak with more confidence by giving short speeches.

Due to the positive feedback from students an additional one day work shop on financial issues sponsored by Citigroup was also provided for 30 gifted and talented students from Years 8, 9 and 10.  From this workshop 5 students were selected to participate in the CitiBank Financial Public Speaking Challenge.

Gifted and talented students are able to take most GCSEs a year early in Y10 and then take further option in Y11.
