RSE/HE and Citizenship

We follow the statutory guidance for Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education (HE) and the National Curriculum for Citizenship. We teach all of this through our LBTS5 programme. Each term, each year group has an LBTS5 theme. This means one of our 5 LBTS5 values is the theme for the term. Our  5 LBTS5 values are Achievement, Aspiration, Resilience, Respect and Responsibility

We map all of the topics in Relationships and Sex Education, Health Education and Citizenship against these 5 values and then teach them through 5 strands:

    1. LBTS5 LESSONS: Each fortnight every Y7-13 student will have a LBTS5 lesson where s/he will explore 1 of the 5 values. Each lesson will link the school value being studied to an aspect of RSE/HE and/or Citizenship curriculum. For example students will look at many different aspects of relationships in order to develop their understanding of  RESILIENCE
    2. LBTS5 DAYS: Each half term there is a LBTS5 day where Y7-13 come off timetable and participate in activities to help them further understand the LBTS5 value they are studying. Each LBTS5 day will link the school value being studied to an aspect of the RSE/HE and/or Citizenship curriculum.  For example students will look at how to take action in the local community in order to develop their understanding of how to take more RESPONSIBILITY
    3. AM TUTOR TIME: During AM registration, students take part in discussions and debates, which are designed to make them think more deeply about the 1 of the 5 school values.  Every AM Tutor Time will link the school value being studied to an aspect of the RSE/HE and/or Citizenship curriculum.  For example students will look at a weekly news story  in order to develop their understanding of  RESPECT
    4. ASSEMBLIES: Assemblies provide opportunities to hear from key speakers at least once a term about one of our 5 values. Again these assemblies will link the school value being discussed to an aspect of the RSE/HE and/or Citizenship curriculum.  For example students will hear from professionals in order to develop their understanding of ASPIRATION
    5. HOUSE POINTS: All LBTS House Points are linked to the 5 values. These are awarded in all subjects and in tutor time in order to recognise when students are demonstrating the values that we expect of them.  For example students may be awarded House Points, for repeatedly trying their best to improve their school work, in order to develop their understanding of  RESILIENCE
